SwimMAC’s Reid Miller Will Stay In State, Sends Verbal to Tar Heels for 2022

NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Reid Miller of Charlotte, North Carolina, has opted to remain in state for his college career after verbally committing to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill for the fall of 2022.

He will join Hunter Lund, Spencer FreemanJack GuentherTyler RobertonPatrick Sleater and Tanner Jones as a member of the Tar Heels’ Class of 2026.

He told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited and honored to annouce that I have committed to continue my academic and swim career at the University of North Carolina. A special thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and anyone who has helped me get to where I am today. #goheels”

Miller does his club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and most recently raced five events at the Speedo Summer East Championships after earning two best times at Greensboro Sectionals this past summer. He had a great meet at the 18&U Winter Championships in December, picking up best times in all of his events and posting four top-8 finishes, including a runner-up showing in the 200 free.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.26
  • 100 free – 44.39
  • 200 free – 1:37.43
  • 100 back – 48.50
  • 200 back – 1:50.37
  • 100 fly – 48.86

Also competing for Bradford Prep School, Miller is a six-time individual North Carolina 1A/2A State Championship finalist. He won the 50 free and placed third in the 100 back as a junior while taking first in the 50 free and third in the 100 fly during his sophomore season.

Under head coach Mark Gangloff, the Tar Heels finished sixth at the 2021 ACC Championships.
