Summer McIntosh to Miss Rest of World Cup With Illness

After missing the Carmel, Ind., stop of the 2025 World Cup, Olympic champion Summer McIntosh will miss the rest of the series.

The Canadian sensation posted on social media that an illness will keep her from this first stop of competition. CBC reported that she will miss the Westmont, Ill., stop this week and the Toronto stop in two weeks because of the undisclosed illness.

“She’s especially disappointed,” to miss the Toronto stop in front of her hometown fans, Summer McIntosh told CBC through a spokesperson.

Here is what she wrote after missing the first stop.

“Hi everyone, I was so excited to race at the first top of the World Cup, but disappointed to share I have unexpectedly fallen ill and based on doctor’s advice I will not be racing in Carmel,” Summer McIntosh wrote. “Cheers to lots of fast and fierce racing this weekend of an absolute stacked field of the very best swimmers in the world.”

The World Cup will offer a prize pool of $1.2 million, with $10k bonuses doled out for world-record performances. Additionally, if an athlete completes a Triple Crown, by winning the same event at all three stops, a $10k bonus will be awarded.

Already a world record and several American and U.S. Open record have been broken in the series.
