PHOENIX, Arizona, November 15. ITALY’S financial troubles have trickled down to the swimming pool, as the country has withdrawn from hosting the 2014 short course world championships in Catania on the island of Sicily.
The country has been in a lot of upheaval in the past few days, as Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was forced to resign. A replacement host for the meet has not yet been named.
Later today, Procter & Gamble will announce that Michael Phelps will become their new worldwide face for the company’s Head & Shoulders shampoo. Phelps will sign a two-year contract for the campaign, which will take him beyond his final Olympics. Most of Phelps’ big-money endorsements net him more than seven figures, and it’s likely the Olympic legend will get the same kind of deal with Procter & Gamble. Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is already the face of Head & Shoulders, and it’s not known how the two athletes will share the endorsement of the shampoo.
