Stanford Tears Up American and NCAA Record in 200 Medley Relay; Simone Manuel Splits 20.45

The Stanford Cardinal, California Golden Bears and the Indiana Hoosiers swam the three fastest 200 medley relays in history as the Cardinal touched first at 1:33.11. Cal was second at 1:33.85 and Indiana was third at 1:33.89. All three schools swam faster than the fastest time ever that Cal set at 1:34.10 from the 2017 NCAA’s.
Ally Howe (23.54), Kim Williams (26.50), Janet Hu (22.62) and Simone Manuel (20.45) swam for Stanford as Manuel had the fastest freestyle split in history with her 20.45 anchor leg.
Cal was second with Kathleen Baker (23.56), Abbey Weitzeil (26.68), Noemie Thomas (22.66) and Amy Bilquist (20.95) to move to second fastest in history.
Indiana swam Ally Rockett (23.54), Lilly King (25.38), Christie Jensen (23.18) and Grace Haskett (21.79) for third place as King had the fastest breaststroke split ever with her time.
Texas A&M (1:35.57), Louisville (1:35.70), Minnesota (1:36.03), Southern California (1:36.44) and Texas (1:36.49) also swam in the championship final.
All of the fastest splits came from the top three schools except USC’s Louise Hansson who swam a 22.33 butterfly split.
This is Stanford’s 14th overall 200 medley relay title. They previously won titles in 1983, 1984, 1986, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2014 and 2016.
