NEW COMMIT: Duke University has received its second verbal commitment for the 2023-24 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Claire McLean of Santa Monica, California.

She will join Ali Pfaff of Lexington, Virginia, as a member of the Blue Devils’ Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic pursuits at Duke University!  After the amazing campus visit with Coach Dan Colella, where I had the opportunity to engage with the Duke students, I knew it would be a great fit. I remain grateful for the continued support from my family, friends, and coaches. Go Blue Devils!”

A sprint freestyler, McLean trains year-round with Los Angeles Swim Club and finished 13th in the 100m free at the Speedo Summer West Championships after taking fourth in that event as well as sixth in the 50m free at Santa Clarita Futures this past summer.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.18
  • 100 free – 49.69
  • 200 free – 1:50.24

Currently a junior at Harvard-Westlake High School, McLean won the 100 free and was the runner-up in the 50 free at the 2021 CIF Southern Section DII Championships. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.

Under head coach Dan Colella, Duke finished sixth at the 2021 ACC Championships.
