NEW COMMIT: Duke University has officially entered the Class of 2027 recruiting game after receiving its first verbal commitment for the fall of 2023 from Junior National qualifier Ali Pfaff of Lexington, Virginia.

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to Duke University. Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me throughout my swimming career. I look forward to being a Blue Devil!”

Pfaff currently does her club swimming with Virginia Gators as of May, previously competing for Rockbridge Storm Swim Team. She most recently competed at the Speedo Summer East Championships where she placed 13th in the 100m back en route to earning four best times. She also collected silver in the 100m back and bronze in the 200m back at Virginia Long Course Seniors this past summer.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.61
  • 100 free – 50.78
  • 200 free – 1:52.01
  • 100 back – 54.72

Currently a junior at Rockbridge High School, Pfaff placed second in both the 100 free and 100 back at the Virginia Class 3 State Championships as a sophomore to Tatum Wall, who has also committed to the Blue Devils. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American took second and fourth, respectively, in those events as a freshman.

Pfaff will add valuable depth both individually and on relays by the time she arrives in Durham at the start of the 2023-24 season. Under head coach Dan Colella, Duke finished sixth at the 2021 ACC Championships.
