FAIRFAX, Virginia, November 24. AT the 2010 Tom Dolan Invitational swim meet, the Curl-Burke Swim Club will be dedicating the mile race for 13/14 and Open Age groups, (male and female) to Fran Crippen. The race will be called the Fran Crippen Memorial Mile, and Head Coach Rick Curl & Curl-Burke Swim Club extends an invitation to swimmers to enter the event, and honor Fran Crippen.
Fran was graduate of University of Virginia, Captain of the UVA swim team, and swam for Germantown Academy Aquatic Club. He was also a National team member, and took it upon himself to be a huge mentor to younger swimmers. Fran's family stated "it was his goal and dream to represent the United States in the Olympic Games and when you look up the term "Olympian" it reads, "Majestic in manner; superior to mundane affairs; surpassing all others in scope and effect."
Curl-Burke Swim Club felt that the 2010 Tom Dolan Invitational Swim Meet would be an appropriate setting to honor Fran's memory, and to inspire younger athletes to elevate themselves too. We would also like to show our love, and support to the Crippen family, and to continue to help support Fran's wishes to provide safety for all athletes.
Donations will be accepted at the meet for the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation. (www.francrippen.com) The Foundation was established to promote Fran's legacy through its core mission to provide safety and aid to athletes as they journey to elevate themselves.
If you have any further questions, please contact the meet director Brian Pawlowicz, 703-319-4168
