SPEEDO Champions Series Lights Up in Ohio
CANTON, Ohio. March 18. POTENTIAL future stars of swimming continued to make a splash at the SPEEDO Champions Sectional Series in Canton, Ohio saturday. Double winnsers included Ava Ohlgren from Bac, and Michael Christy from Washington Township Wave.
On the women's side, Ohlgren took the first event of the evening with a swift 2:00.19 in the 200 I.M. Sprint freestyle showcased Jenna Hillier in her victory with a 24.08. Ohlgren followed up with another victory in the 200 Breaststroke. He time of 2:16.09 qualified her for Nationals. Megan Bender took down the 100 backstroke with a quick 57.46. Brittany Strumbel claimed another victory for this meet with a 4:54.10 in the 500 freestyle.
Michael Christy dominated the four-stroke medley with a 1:50.75. Nicholas Bonucchi cracked the 21 barrie in the 50 free in prelims with a 20.86. In finals, however, he won the event in 21.12. Brad Craig won the 200 breaststroke with a 2:02.77 from CUDA.
The closest race of the night was the 100 backstroke. Michael Christy won the event in 51.26, touching out teammate Peter Jameson at 51.28. Enrique Bayata was third, but not by much, with his 51.30.
Nathan Williams ended the evening with a 4:32.96 in the 500 freestyle.
