South Carolina Women, Virginia Tech Men Victorious in Dual Meet

The South Carolina Gamecocks hosted Virginia Tech in the Gamecocks’ final home dual meet of the 2025-26 season Saturday. The home women’s team picked up a 196-98 victory while Virginia Tech’s men came out on top 185-113.

South Carolina’s team of Amy RiordanElizabeth Goodwin-BirnieTaylor Grimley and Dylan Scholes took first in the 200 medley relay in 1:38.25. Riordan was back in the pool quickly to earn a wire-to-wire win in the 200 freestyle (1:45.12), and Goodwin-Birnie crushed the field in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.94). Scholes was the winner of the 100 freestyle (49.21), and Riordan won again in the 200 back (1:51.78).

Breckin Gormley led the way in the 1000 free (9:48.25) and 500 free (4:47.15), and Jordan Agliano came in first in the 200 butterfly with an impressive mark of 1:55.70. Agliano returned to pull away from the field in the 100 fly (53.17). The 200 breast went to the Gamecocks’ Delaney Franklin (2:12.26), and she also won the 200 IM (1:59.50). In diving, Sophie Verzyl won 1-meter (338.85) and 3-meter (371.63).

Virginia Tech’s Carmen Weiler Sastre came in first place in the 100 backstroke (51.59) and 50 free (22.27). The team of Weiler Sastre, Emily ClaessonEliza Tan and Fanni Gyurinovics placed first in the 400 free relay in 3:16.40.

In the men’s meet, the team of Andy RooseEli MartinWill Hayon and Brendan Whitfield set the tone with a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:25.61. The race was tight in the early going before Whitfield blasted an 18.77 split on the anchor leg. Whitfield then posted a time of 1:33.91 for the win in the 200 free, and he won the 100 free by more than two seconds in 42.06.

Martin won the 100 breast (52.60) and 200 breast (1:53.61). Yanis George Mathew and Javier Nunez tied for first in the 50 free, with both swimmers going 20.04. Levente Balogh took down the field in the 200 back (1:42.10) Clem Camacho won the 200 IM in 1:46.76.

Rocky Ramsland placed first in 1-meter diving (338.10) while the team of Whitfield, Hayon, George Mathew and Nunez won the 400 free relay in 2:52.91. Whitfield’s incredible day concluded with a 42.10 leadoff leg.

South Carolina’s Connor Fry got under 9:00 for first place in the 1000 free (8:59.74), and teammate Ryan Hufford held on for the win in a tight 100 back (47.05). Gage Hulbert placed first in the 200 fly (1:45.38), and Pierre Largeron was first in the 500 free (4:19.86). Eldor Usmonov had the Gamecocks’ final swimming win of the day in the 100 fly (46.67) while Charley Bayer won 3-meter diving (351.15).
