Six World Masters SCM Records Fall at IGLA Meet
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 25. OVER the weekend, six world Masters SCM records fell at the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Championships held in Washington, D.C.
Glenn Mills shot down a trio of global standards in the 45-49 age division. He downed the men's 200 IM record with a time of 2:13.42. Marco Colombo of Italy previously held the record with a 2:15.31 from 2007.
Mills also broke the 100 breast record in the event with a time of 1:05.74 to beat Chris Weissman's 1:06.39 from 2007.
Mills' final record came in the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.68. He destroyed David Guthrie's 2007 record of 2:26.17.
Meanwhile, Swimming World contributor Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen snatched three world records of her own in the women's 45-49 division.
First, she posted a time of 9:20.08 in the 800 free to dash Lynn Marshall's 2006 record of 9:21.65.
She also lowered her own record in the 100 IM with a time of 1:06.80, dropping her previous 2007 record of 1:07.49.
Pipes-Neilsen smashed another of her records in the 100 back with a time of 1:05.55. That was plenty good enough to lower her 1:06.44 from 2007.
Event organizers also state that 16 USMS records fell, as well as 130 meet records.
