SEC Dual Meet Goes to Missouri Women, Kentucky Men
After competing against Louisville Friday, the Missouri Tigers finished their trip to the Bluegrass state Saturday with a dual meet against the Kentucky Wildcats. The Missouri women earned a 180-120 win while Kentucky, fresh off sweeping Notre Dame a day earlier, won the men’s meet 168.5-131.5.
Missouri won the 200 medley relay in 1:37.75 with a team of Annabelle Wentzel, Zara Zallen, Kylee Sullivan and Francesca Smith. Zallen followed with a strong result in the 200 free (1:47.03) and another win in the 100 free (48.90) while Smith was first in the 50 free (22.79). Libby Bakker topped the 100 backstroke (53.67) while Lina Bank was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.14) and 200 breast (2:11.86).
Maeve DeYoung was the only swimmer under 2:00 in the 200 butterfly (1:59.75) while Paige Striley won the 100-yard event of the same stroke (53.92). In diving, Missouri’s Gaby Carmona won 3-meter (343.65), and the Missouri team of Zallen, Smith, Bank and Katie Kuehn finished off the meet with a win in the 200 free relay (1:31.18).
Kentucky’s Katy Jost got her team’s first win in the 1000 free (9:56.07), and she won again in the 500 free (4:49.63). Fernanda De Goeij topped the 200 back (1:55.34), and Hayden Penny dominated the 400 IM (4:12.89). Avery Giese won 1-meter diving (278.48).
The Kentucky men began their day with a triumphant performance in the 200 medley relay, with Lysander Osman, Adomas Gatulis, Falemana Tuufui and AJ Terry clocking 1:24.88. Gatulis dominated the 100 breast in 52.89, and Tuufui dominated the 50 free in 19.20, and he came from behind to take first in the 100 free (43.11)
Distance standout Carson Hick topped the 1000 free by more than 10 seconds in 8:52.05 while Devin Naoroz won the 200 back (1:43.39). Dziugas Miskinis was the winner of the 500 free (4:25.54), and Levi Sandidge picked up a victory in the 400 IM (3:42.55). In the 200 free relay, Tuufui led off in 19.27, just 0.07 off his Wildcats team record set Friday, and he teamed with Osman, Justin Peresse and Terry to take first in 1:17.79.
Missouri’s Oliver Millan de Miguel won the 200 free (1:37.15), and teammate Quinlan Gould won the 100 back (46.41). Jan Zubik paced the field in the 200 fly (1:43.11) and 100 fly (47.04), and Matthew Mortenson electrified the field on the back half to take first in the 200 breast. Diver Tanner Braunton was first on 1-merer (348.38) while teammate Tommaso Zannella won 3-meter (353.03).
