NEW COMMIT: Las Vegas, Nevada native Portia Blackert has committed to Dixie State University and will arrive on campus next fall. She will also join Maddie Corder in the class of 2023.

Primarily a freestyle who gets faster as the distance gets longer, Blackert does her club swimming with Sandpipers of Nevada. She capped off her long course season with six best times at Western Zone Seniors and placed fourth in the mile at the Arizona Senior Open last winter. Also competing for Palo Verde High School, Blackert finished fourth in the 500 free at the Nevada State Championships during her junior season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m excited to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic careers at Dixie State University! I believe Coach McAllister is building something very special, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it! I’m blessed to soon be swimming with an incredible group that will better me in and out of the pool. Go Trailblazers!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 56.85
  • 200 free – 1:59.14
  • 500 free – 5:11.28
  • 1000 free – 10:38.13
  • 1650 free – 17:42.72

When she suits up for the Trailblazers as a member of the class of 2023, Blackert will add her talents to a freestyle group that includes Corder, Kate Pack and Kelsea Wright. She would’ve scored in the C-final of the 500 free at the 2018 PCSC Championships where her best mile time would’ve placed in the top-12 as well.
