Lithuania has selected eight swimmers to participate in the 2019 World Championships, but Ruta Meilutyte is not one of them.

She has been in the news for anti-doping violations in regard to accessibility.

Ruta Meilutyte missed three anti-doping tests in a 12-month period, which violates FINA’s anti-doping policy. She is waiting to find out the punishment for the rule violation, but it is likely at least a one-year ban.

“After already missing three tests, she was checked by the (anti-doping controller), this time they found her, took samples, and as far as I know, the tests were negative. Rather, we do not have the information that the tests were positive, which probably means they were negative,” Lithuania coach Emil Vaitkaitis told lrt.lt, a Lithuanian news site.

“The rut was a brief explanation that everything happened because of its negligent filling, and so on. I would like to point out that she is not trying to find foolish excuses or to create stories about why this happened. I think it shows the athlete’s maturity or responsibility for his actions. This may be one of the mitigating circumstances for disqualification,” Vaitkaitis told the site.

The World Championships are July 12-28 in Gwangju, South Korea.
