The University of Arkansas has gained two verbal commitments for the Class of 2021. Alyssa Lemon and Katiana Porporis have both pledged their commitments to the Razorbacks. Both girls swim for Rockwood Swim Club in Missouri and attend Marquette Senior High School.

Rockwood’s seniors have been on a roll this fall. Anna Luckenbach is headed to the University of San Diego, Anna Miller gave her pledge to Missouri State, and Izzi Clark gave her verbal to Florida Gulf Coast.

Alyssa Lemon

Lemon is a freestyler who is strong in the 50 through the 1650. Her best times are:

  • 50 Free 24.39
  • 100 Free 52.44
  • 200 Free 1:51.94
  • 500 Free 5:02.84
  • 1000 Free 10:29.02
  • 1650 Free 17:40.40

At the Missouri High School state meet, Lemon finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:52.82) last year. She was also runner up in the 500 freestyle (5:04.41) before leading off the school’s seventh place 400 freestyle relay.

From 2016 to 2015 she took a full second off her 200 free time while her 500 best came down by three and she dropped six seconds in the mile. Despite recent improvement, she’s not quite in SEC scoring range.

Katiana Porporis

The high school seniors’ best times are:

  • 100 Back 56.58
  • 200 Back 2:02.34
  • 100 Breast 1:05.36
  • 200 IM 2:05.92

Last year at the Missouri Girls high school state meet Porporis finished third in the 200 IM, stopping the clock in 2:05.92. She also claimed bronze in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.75). While Lemon led off, Porporis also anchored the seventh place 400 freestyle relay and swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay.

At Arkansas, she’ll join a backstroke training group led by Madison Umberger who was a freshman last year. The team’s only scorer in the 100 back, Natalie Burnett, will graduate this May.

It should also be noted that both girls go to the same high school as well (Marquette), which is where they both earned the large majority of their best times! Just goes to show that teamwork in what is a largely individual sport, and collaboration between Club and High School programs can produce great results!
