NEW COMMIT: Brown University has added a new verbal commitment* for the 2021-22 season and beyond from butterflyer Chris Ma of North Potomac, Md.

He will join Harrison Powe and Kaan Kilinc in Providence as a member of the class of 2025.

He told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for and attend Brown University! I chose Brown for its dedicated and talented team as well as amazing undergraduate program! Attending Brown is a dream come true, and I would like to sincerely thank my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and teachers for helping me achieve my goals! I hope to make them proud!”

A U.S. Open qualifier, Ma does his club swimming with Rockville Montgomery Swim Club and earned six best times at NCSAs in March 2019 where his highest finish was a 15th-place showing in the 100 fly. Last summer, he raced to 16th place in the 100m fly at NCSAs while earning best times in all of his events.

  • 200 fly – 1:49.78
  • 200 free – 1:41.08

Also competing for Richard Montgomery High School, Ma is a six-time Maryland 3-4A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 fly and was the runner-up in the 50 free as a junior while taking third and fifth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
