Harrison Powe, Kaan Kilinc Pledge 2021 Verbal Commitments to Brown University

Harrison Powe, Kaan Kilinc verbally commit to Brown.

NEW COMMITS: Huntersville, N.C. native Harrison Powe and Kaan Kilinc of Istanbul, Turkey, have both verbally committed* to Brown University beginning in the fall of 2021.

He told Swimming World:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Brown University! The outstanding athletics and academics Brown University provides was exactly what I was looking for. I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches who all helped me along the way. I look forward to being apart of this amazing team for the next 4 years! Go Bruno!”

A talented breaststroker and IMer, Powe does his club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and is a Junior National qualifier. He most recently placed fourth in the 100 breast and sixth in the 200 breast at the Southern Premier Invitational after earning a best time at Juniors East. Powe earned 100% best times at North Carolina LCM Seniors last summer as well.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.17
  • 200 breast – 2:02.83
  • 200 IM – 1:54.31
  • 400 IM – 4:05.91
  • 50 free – 21.25

Also competing for Lake Norman Charter School, Powe is a five-time North Carolina 1A/2A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 200 free and took third in the 100 breast as a junior while finishing third in the 100 breast and fourth in the 100 free during his sophomore season.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

I want to thank my coaches, teachers, friends, and family who gave me their unconditional support throughout this process. I feel privileged to be part of such an exceptional team and I can’t wait for what the future holds. GO BRUNO! ?❤️”

Kilinc trains year-round with Fenerbahce Sports Club and placed fourth in the 200m back and fifth in the 100m back at the Turkish National Team Selection meet in December. He was a four-time finalist at Turkish SC Junior Nationals last winter where his highest finish was a 12th-place showing in the 100m back.

His best times include (LCM/SCY conversions):

  • 50m back – 27.32/23.27
  • 100m back – 58.15/49.71
  • 200m back – 2:05.18/1:48.78
  • 200m IM – 2:11.50/1:53.70

Last summer, he raced to ninth place in the 50m/100m back and took 11th in the 200m back at the Turkish Open.
