NEW COMMIT: After originally committing to East Carolina University, in-state standout Reece Alexander of Pfafftown, N.C. has sent her verbal commitment to University of North Carolina, Wilmington for the fall of 2021.

She is newly-appointed head coach Bobby Guntoro’s first commitment for the class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“As God closes one door, he opens another. I am very excited to say that I’ve decided to stay in NC and swim at UNCW for the class of 2025. I’m very thankful for the ECU coaches and also for the other coaches who have recruited me during this difficult transition. However, I am SO honored to have the opportunity to swim under Bobby Guntoro. Cannot wait to see where this takes my future team… Go Seahawks ?”

Alexander, who owns the Winter Juniors cut in the 100 fly, does her club swimming with Northwest North Carolina YMCA Riptyde and won the 100 fly at the 27th Arena Capital Classic in December. She finaled in the 50m fly this last summer at YMCA LCM Nationals and raced both fly events at YMCA SCY Nationals in April 2019.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 55.19
  • 200 fly – 2:04.92
  • 200 IM – 2:09.44
  • 400 IM – 4:35.31
  • 200 free – 1:52.62

A rising senior at Ronald Reagan High School, Alexander is a four-time North Carolina 4A State Championships finalist, most recently placing seventh in the 100 fly and 12th in the 200 free. She also finished 13th in the 100 fly during her sophomore season after placing sixth in that event as a freshman.

She will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Seahawks at the start of the 2021-22 season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 fly as well as the B-final of the 200 fly and 200 free at the 2020 CAA Championships where UNCW finished fifth overall in the team standings.
