NEW COMMIT: The University of Tennessee has earned a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season from Murfreesboro, Tenn. native Joseph Jordan.

Primarily a sprint freestyler, Jordan does his club swimming with Excel Aquatics and owns the Summer Juniors standard in the 50 free. He most recently competed at NCSAs where he placed 12th in the 50 free and recorded a pair of best times after recording four top-5 finishes at the Southeastern SCY Championships. He raced three events at Juniors East in December concluded his long course season with a lifetime best at Junior Nationals this past summer.

Also competing for Oakland High School, Jordan is a three-year TISCA Tennessee State Championship qualifier. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American grabbed the bronze medal in both the 50 free and 100 free as a junior after finishing 17th in the former during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“Blessed to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee. Thankful to further my academic and swimming career in a place that feels like home! All glory to God. Go Vols!! #GBO”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.54
  • 100 free – 45.75
  • 200 free – 1:42.87
  • 100 breast – 58.23

Jordan has improved significantly over the past two seasons, shaving off three seconds from his 50 free, nine seconds from his 100 free and six seconds from his 100 breast. When he suits up for the Vols as a member of the class of 2024, he’ll join a talented incoming class that also includes Alexander MilanovichJacob McDonaldCole Whitsett and Harrison Lierz.
