NEW COMMIT: Westminster, Colorado native and high school junior Harrison Lierz has given his verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee for the fall of 2020.

Lierz does his club swimming with Elevation Athletics and owns the Junior National standard in eight different events. He placed ninth in the 200m back and tenth in the 100m back at Juniors this summer after winning the latter as well as the 100m fly at CO LCM Seniors. He was the 200 back runner-up at Juniors West last winter and had four top-5 finishes at Colorado Seniors in February.

Also representing Broomfield High School, Lierz is a four-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. He won the 200 free and 500 free as a sophomore after placing second in both the 200 IM and 500 free during his freshman season. Lierz has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.

He told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim for the University of Tennessee in 2020! I would not be where I am today without the support of my parents, family, friends, Broomfield High School Eagles and Elevation Athletics. The Vols support my swimming and education goals. Go Vols!!”

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 48.61
  • 200 back – 1:43.76
  • 100 free – 45.10
  • 200 free – 1:39.12
  • 500 free – 4:31.30
  • 100 fly – 49.23
  • 200 IM – 1:50.21
  • 400 IM – 3:57.98

When he arrives in Knoxville as a member of the class of 2024, Lierz will join add valuable backstroke depth following the graduation of top returning backstrokers Matthew Garcia and Michael Reilman. Even with two years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Vols, Lierz’s best 200 back time would’ve scored in the C-final of the 2018 SEC Championships where Tennessee finished fourth overall in the team standings.
