NEW COMMIT: Land O Lakes, Fla. native Hanna Barton has announced her intention to swim for the University of South Carolina. She will join Taylor Steele and Emily Horomanski as members of the class of 2023.

A competitive gymnast for eight years, Barton has only been swimming club for just over a year with Blue Wave Swimming. She capped off a strong long course season with a best time in every event she swam at Florida Senior LCM Championships and also raced at Cary Futures. She was a four-time Florida Senior SCY Championship finalist and achieved 100% best times at that meet as well.

Also representing Sunlake High School, Barton competed in the 50 free and 100 fly at FHSAA 3A State Championships during her junior campaign and was a member of the winning 4×50 free relay. She finished fifth and eighth, respectively, in her individual events at the FHSAA 3A Region 3 meet.

She told Swimming World:

“I am SUPER EXCITED and beyond blessed to announce my commitment to swim at the University of South Carolina!!! A huge thank you to all of my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have supported me along this way. I can’t wait to be a part of such an incredible team and university!!! Spurs up!!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.78
  • 100 free – 53.52
  • 200 free – 1:57.20
  • 100 fly – 58.34

With another year of club swimming under her belt, Barton is sure to improve upon her times even more before arriving at South Carolina for the 2019-20 season. She’ll join a sprint free training group that includes Christina Lappin and Edith Lingmann and a fly group led by Emma Otten.
