Purdue Boilermakers Gain 2021 In-State Verbal from U.S. Open Qualifier Brady Samuels

NEW COMMIT: Sprint freestyler Brady Samuels of Muncie, Ind. has opted to stay in-state for his college career and has handed his verbal commitment to Purdue University for the fall of 2021.

He will join Lance Lesage as a member of the Boilermakers’ class of 2025.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Purdue University. Can’t wait to be a Boilermaker! #boilerup”

Samuels does his club swimming with Cardinal Community Swim Club and owns a pair of U.S. Open cuts in the 50/100 free combo. He earned four best times at Indiana Seniors in 2019 where his highest finish was an eighth-place showing in the 100 free. Last summer, he notched two lifetime bests and finaled in the 50m free at Greensboro Futures.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.54
  • 100 free – 44.53
  • 100 fly – 50.45

Also competing for Delta High School, Samuels is a four-time Indiana State Championship finalist. He was the 100 free runner-up and took sixth in the 50 free as a junior while taking 12th in the 50 free and 13th in the 100 fly during his sophomore season.

Under head coach Dan Ross, Purdue finished seventh in the team standings at the 2020 Big Ten Championships and have a young but talented team in place for next season.
