Backstroker Lance Lesage Verbally Commits to Purdue For Fall of 2021

New Commit: Purdue University has received a verbal commitment from backstroker Lance Lesage out of Hollywood, Florida for the fall of 2021.

Lesage swims club at Pine Crest Swimming under coach Mariusz Podkoscielny and had qualified to swim at the Canadian Olympic Trials. He swims high school at Saint Thomas Aquinas and was 3A state runner-up in the 100 back this past fall. He swam at the Winter Junior Nationals East championships after high school season, placing as high as 58th in the 200 back.

Lance Lesage is a three-time finalist in the 100 backstroke at the FHSAA 3A State championships, finishing second this past season after entering the day as the top seed after prelims. He was also a finalist in the 100 freestyle in placing seventh.

Lance Lesage’s best times:

  • 50 free: 22.06
  • 100 free: 46.37
  • 200 free: 1:43.21
  • 100 back: 49.16, 58.29 (LCM)
  • 200 back: 1:49.81, 2:06.36 (LCM)

Lesage also qualified for the summer juniors last year, placing 33rd in the 200 back and 40th in the 100. He will be joining a Purdue team that will be gaining Andrew Alders, Aaron FrolloCharlie KingColeman ModglinKevin O’DareGriffin Seaver, Ethan Shaw, Andrew Swenson and Andrew Witty in the fall of 2020.

Purdue was seventh at the 2020 Big Ten men’s swimming and diving championships and have a young team in place for next season. Purdue’s best backstroker this season was Michael Juengel (47.24, 1:43.75), who was a B-Finalist in both events as a freshman. All of Purdue’s representatives in the backstroke events at Big Tens will be back next year, and all of their 200 backstrokers were underclassmen. Lesage will join Juengel in his junior season as he is the second verbal commit for the Boilermakers for the fall of 2021 after Brady Samuels from Indiana.

Congrats Daniel Ross and Purdue swimming. It looks like he could be one of your top backstrokers coming in as a freshman. I would bet on low-mid 46’s by the time he is tapered his freshman year.
