NEW COMMIT: Princeton University* has received a new verbal commitment for the 2024-25 season and beyond from Santiago Gutierrez of Mexico City, Mexico.

He’ll join Patrick Dinu as a member of the Tigers’ Class of 2028.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am proud and excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Princeton University as part of their Class of 2028. I want to thank my family, as well as all my teammates and coaches who believed in me and helped me get to where I am today. I am looking forward to being part of the PUCSDT family and to contribute to the team to help the program reach new heights. Finally, I want to thank coach Matt and coach Abby for the opportunity. GO TIGERS”

Upon moving to the United Stats, Gutierrez began club swimming with Sandpipers of Nevada. When competing in Mexico, he represents Acuatica Nelson Vargas.

He qualified for the Mexican Open Water team for the World Championships, placing third at the Open Water Trials back in April. He earned himself a spot to represent Team Mexico at the World Aquatic Championships this summer.

His best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:24.79
  • 1000 free – 9:06.83
  • 1650 free – 15:06.53

Formerly a triathlete, Gutierrez has only been solely focusing on swimming for two years. His breakthrough came at the Mexican Team Trials this past April where he finished seventh in the 400m free.
