PRESS RELEASE: Sun Devils Burn Beavers in PAC-10 Meet
TEMPE, Arizona, January 9. THE Oregon State women’s swimming team fell to Arizona State 158-47 Saturday afternoon at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The Sun Devils dominated the Beavers by capturing first place in all 11 races on the evening, keeping Oregon State (1-7 overall, 0-4 Pac-10) winless in Pacific-10 dual meets.
“(Arizona State) has a strong team and they swam really well today,” OSU head coach Larry Liebowitz said. “We weren’t as fast as I hoped this weekend, but I am happy with the overall effort after the vacation break.”
The Beavers struggled on the night with ASU taking several of the top positions in each event. Junior Julie McCauley led the Beavers with a second place finish in the 200 free (1:54.37) and a fourth place finish in the 100 free (53.74). Senior Ausra Pacebutaite continued her backstroke success with a second place finish in the 100 back with a time of 57.33.
“(Pacebutaite) and Julie (McCauley) really stood out today,” Liebowitz said. “They swam well and I think they really improved this weekend.”
Oregon State will look to bounce back January 21 when it hosts San Jose State in Corvallis.
