Pittsburgh Swimming and Diving Hires Aaron Workman as an Assistant Coach

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, July 2. PITT's head swimming and diving coach Chuck Knoles announced the hiring of Aaron Workman as an assistant coach. Workman joins the staff along with fellow assistants Julian Krug, Marian Clark and Jeff Berghoff as members of Knoles' staff.

"We are excited to have Aaron join our program," Knoles said. "Aaron brings with him considerable success as one of the country's most aggressive recruiters and accomplished young coaches in Division I. The energy and experience he will add to the swimming and diving program will help propel us forward in the Big East and nationally."

Workman comes to Pitt after coaching at UNLV for two seasons where he served as assistant swim coach and recruiting coordinator. Workman was in charge of all aspects of men's and women's recruiting, sprint/middle distance-group, running all meets and invitationals, managing the travel budget and has knowledge of NCAA rules and guidelines.

While at UNLV, Workman coached the Rebels to a 28th-place finish at the Division I NCAA Championships and contributed to the men's swimming team's back-to-back Mountain West Conference Championships.

Workman had a brief head coaching stint at Hollins University (2002-03) where he led the team to their best finish in three seasons. While at Hollins, Workman coached two conference swimmers of the week and led his team to the highest point total at conference meets in three seasons.

Workman's collegiate coaching skills also include assistant stints at Wittenberg University (2003-2004) and the University of Kentucky (2001-02). At Wittenberg Workman coached two NCAA All-Americas and a top 20 Division III finish at the National Championships.

While serving as an assistant senior coach for the Wildcats Aquatics Club (2002-04) for two years, he helped coach eight sectional qualifiers and two Senior National Qualifiers.

Workman received his bachelor's of science degree in broadcasting from Kentucky in 2001. As an undergraduate at Kentucky, he swam for the Wildcats and was a four-time All-American during his four seasons there. He helped the Wildcats to four straight top-20 finishes, and was also a two-time academic all-conference selection while earning academic All-American in 2001. Workman swam in the 2000 Olympic trails.

Along with coaching Workman is very active in serving his community. He has spent time helping Maxwell Elementary School as a Big Buddy, D.A.R.E. as a speaker, Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army.

Workman now resides in Pittsburgh with his wife Jaime, also a former All-America swimmer at Kentucky.

Special thanks to Pittsburgh for contributing this report.
