Petar Stoychev Wins FINA Open Water Grand Prix Title for Eighth Consecutive Year
LAUSANNE, Switzerland, October 20. FOLLOWING the final stop of the FINA Open Water Grand Prix event held in Sumidero, Mexico this weekend, Bulgaria's Petar Stoychev claimed his eighth consecutive overall circuit triumph in a row.
Mexico's Ivan Lopez topped the men's race in 3:13:52, while Russia's Daniil Serebrennikov finished second in 3:13:53.40. Argentina's Damian Blaum placed third in 3:13:53.97.
Among the women, Germany's Britta Kamrau clocked a time of 3:18:25 for the win. Mexico's Alejandra Gonzalez took second in 3:23:18, while Esther Nunez Morera of Spain claimed third in 3:24:36.
In the overall leader categories, Stoychev earned $15,000 with 126 points, while Australia's Brendan Capell took second with 89 points for $10,000. France's Stephane Gomez placed third with 84 points for $5,000.
Russia's Natalia Pankina collected 110 points for the $15k, while Germany's Stefanie Biller (99 points) and Nunez Morera (85 points) pocketed $10k and $5k, respectively.
