Pennsylvania 2A State Champion Rylee Kohan Chooses Ohio State for 2028
NEW COMMIT: The Ohio State University has secured a new verbal commitment for Fall 2028 from Rylee Kohan of Johnstown, Pa. Kohan is a versatile Junior National qualifier.
She will join Kiera Powers in Columbus as a member of the Buckeyes’ Class of 2032.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so humbled and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at THE Ohio State University! First, thank you to my parents for everything you do. Thank you for all the sacrifices you made to help me get where I am today. Your endless support and commitment mean the world to me, especially through this recruiting process. Thank you to all my friends and family for your love and encouragement over the years. I appreciate every single one of you. I also want to thank Coach Denny, Coach Glenn, and Coach Jay for your guidance. You changed my perspective on the sport, and I am truly grateful for your support and feedback. Kohan does her club swimming with Greater Johnstown Community YMCA and had a great showing at the Allegheny Mountain Long Course Age Group Championships this past summer where she earned best times in all her events and collected five gold medals.
Last winter, Kohan was a three-time finalist at YMCA Short Course Nationals, highlighted by sixth place in the 200 back and seventh place in the 100 back.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.22
- 100 free – 50.48
- 50 back – 25.74
- 100 back – 55.27
- 200 back – 2:00.07
- 200 IM – 2:05.06
Currently a junior at Westmont Hilltop High School, Kohan won the 50 free and the 100 free at the 2026 Pennsylvania 2A State Championships. The NISCA All-American also won the 50 free and took fifth in the 100 back at the state meet as a freshman in 2025.
Ohio State finished third at the 2026 Big Ten Championships and 12th at the 2026 NCAA Championships.
