Patriot League Awards Weekly Laurels
CENTER VALLEY, Pennsylvania, December 5. THE Patriot League named its athletes of the week on Tuesday. American's Meghan Thiel (swimmer) and Navy's Katie Griffin (diver) earned the women's awards, while Army's Jake Mentele (swimmer) and Navy's Kevin Teague (diver) claimed the men's honors.
At the Princeton Invitational, Thiel swam two NCAA Qualifying B cuts. The Eagle finished the 500-free in 4:49.82, qualifying by five seconds and swam the 1,650-free in 16:36.52, making the cut by 17 seconds. Her time in the 1,650-free was also a Patriot League and school record. In the 200-free, she missed the B cut by one second.
Against Army, Griffin won the one-meter board by four points and the three-meter event by 25 points.
Mentele swam a NCAA Qualifying B Standard time in the 200-breaststroke at the U.S. Open. Against Navy, the Black Knight won the 200-breast and was on the victorious 200-medley relay squad.
Teague swept both boards against Army in the annual "Star" Meet. The Mid won the one-meter with a score of 298.35 points and the three-meter with a total of 316.20 points. He ended his career against Army, 8-0.
