FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, December 19. PHIL Drake, named one of the top 50 male swimmers in Atlantic Coast Conference history in 2001-02 and the 1955 NCAA champion in the 200-yard butterfly, passed away early Saturday morning on Dec. 15.
Drake was 72 years old. Drake's son, David, works as the webmaster for the UNC General Alumni Association. Contributions to honor Drake can be made to the UNC Educational Foundation.
