IRVINE, California, August 18. AUSTRALIA's Jessicah Schipper defended her 2006 women's 200 fly title at the Pan Pacific Championships with a touch-out triumph over USA's Teresa Crippen. Schipper won, 2:06.90 to 2:06.93, over the American. The duo moved to third and fourth in the world with those swims.
China's Jiao Liuyang owns the top time in the world with a 2:05.46, while Katinka Hosszu of Hungary has been 2:06.71.
Schipper defended her title from 2006 when she won in 2:05.40, and kept the title in Aussie hands for the sixth time in a row. Susie O'Neill (1995, 1997 and 1999) and Petria Thomas (2002) won the other four titles.
USA's Kathleen Hersey rounded out the top three with a time of 2:07.27, just off her now fifth-ranked season best of 2:07.00. Canada's Audrey Lacroix touched fourth in 2:08.32, while Japan's Natsumi Hoshi finished fifth in 2:08.49.
Australia's Samantha Hamill (2:09.23), Canada's MacKenzie Downing (2:11.39) and Japan's Yurie Yano (2:12.91) also swam in the championship heat.
USA's Mary Mohler snagged the B final title in 2:09.31, off her prelim effort of 2:09.18.
