Manuel Edges Weitzeil in 50; Stanford Surges Into Lead at Pac-12s
The Stanford women’s swim team took over the lead in the Pac-12 Women’s Championships on Thursday in Federal Way, Washington.
The Cardinal came into the day trailing Cal, but are now more than 100 points ahead with two days remaining.
Stanford leads with 611.5 points, followed by Cal (510.5), Arizona State (354), Arizona (302.5), UCLA (288.5), USC (270), Utah (155), Washington State (142) and Oregon State (87).
500 Free
Stanford’s Katie Ledecky won the 500-yard freestyle to lead off night two. She finished in 4:26.09, leading a 1-2-3 Stanford finish with Ella Eastin (4:34.04) and Lauren Pitzer (4:36.61). The Cardinal also took the No. 5 and No. 7 spots with Megan Byrnes (4:39.05) and Erin Voss (4:40.70), respectively.
Arizona’s Kirsten Jacobsen was fourth (4:37.47). Cal’s Chenoa Devine was sixth (4:40.62) and teammate Robin Neumann was eighth (4:40.92).

Cal’s Kathleen Baker won the 200 IM in 1:52.70, holding the top seed from the prelims. She went 1-2 with teammate Sarah Darcel (1:54.50).
Stanford went 3-4-5-7 with Brooke Forde (1:54.98), Ally Howe (1:55.12), Katie Drabot (1:55.15) and Kim Williams (1:55.74), respectively.
Cal’s Keaton Blovad was sixth (1:55.72). UCLA’s Emma Schantz took eighth (1:56.53).

After taking the second seed during prelims, Stanford’s Simone Manuel won the 50 free (21.20), edging Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil (21.41) and Amy Bilquist (21.74). Manuel’s time broke the Pac-12 Championship meet record.
Stanford’s Janet Hu took fourth (21.98), followed by USC’s Marta Ciesla (22.04), Cal’s Maddie Murphy (22.10), Arizona’s Katrina Konopka (22.17) and Jamie Stone (22.30).

UCLA’s Eloise Belanger and Stanford’s Kassidy Cook were locked in a battle on the boards. Belanger won the 1-meter title at 324.40 points, edging Cook (320.90).
Arizona State’s Frida Kaellgren (302.90) was third, followed by teammate Ashley McCool (298.45). Arizona’s Delaney Schnell was fifth (285.70), followed by Cal’s Phoebe Lamay (280.00), UCLA’s Ciara Monahan (274.50) and Stanford’s Mia Paulsen (268.45).
