The Cal and Stanford men competed in their annual Triple Distance meet.

The non-scoring team event combines three distances of each stroke for a cumulative winner.

In the butterfly, Cal’s Justin Lynch won the 50 and Zheng Wen Quah, who placed second in the 50, came back to win both the 100 and 200 and edge his teammate for the overall win. Quah swam to times of 21.13 in the 50, 47.02 in the 100 and 1:44.63 in the 200 to get the victory.

In the breaststroke, Connor Hoppe jumped out to the early lead with wins in the 50 and 100 but it was Andrew Seliskar who came through at the end as the junior swam to a time of 1:56.83 in the 200 to earn the overall victory. Carson Sand was also a factor in the final standings, placing second in all three distances.

The sprint freestyle came down to the final event as well, with freshman Ryan Hoffer swimming to a time of 20.04 in the 50 free and Michael Jensen taking the 100 in a time of 43.80. Jensen powered to the overall win with an impressive performance in the 200, stopping the clock in a time of 1:36.14 that was over three seconds better than Stanford’s Sam Perry, who placed second.

Cal’s final win came in the individual medley with junior Mike Thomas sweeping all three events to get the overall victory. He swam to a time of 50.61 in the 100, 1:48.01 in the 200 and 3:49.50 in the 400 and was the only swimmer to sweep an individual event.

For Stanford, Grant Shoults (1:37.38) recorded Stanford’s first win of the day in the distance 200-yard freestyle.

Andrew Liang (47.39) swam Stanford’s fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly. In the 100-yard backstroke, Benjamin Ho (48.56) led the Cardinal with a third-place finish.

Perry (43.80) was Stanford’s fastest man in the 100-yard freestyle.

Seattle tops Oregon State

The Oregon State women lost 143-116 to Seattle.

Junior Arianna Letrari, sophomore Felicia Anderson and freshman Fernanda Rodriguez paced the Beavers at the dual as the trio combined for seven individual wins and teamed up with senior captain Noemie Midrez for the top spot in the 400 medley relay.

Letrari took home the top spot on the podium in all three of her individual events on the afternoon. The Bolzano, Italy, native touched the wall with a time of 57.02 in the 100 fly, besting the next fastest swimmer by less than a quarter-second in the event.

Letrari added a time of 2:04.86 in the 200 fly, nearly five seconds faster than the competition, and posted a time of 2:09.85 in the 200 IM for her final first-place finish. The 200 IM time came as a season-best for Letrari as she was almost three seconds faster than the rest.

Anderson took home first place finishes in both the 100 and 200 back to help lead the Beavers. Her time of 56.75 in the 100 back was nearly five seconds faster than the second-place finisher, while her time of 2:04.50 in the 200 back bested the rest of the competition by almost nine seconds.
