Oregon State Champion Brecken Egeland Lends 2027 Verbal to Arizona

NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Brecken Egeland of Bend, Oregon, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Arizona beginning in Fall 2027. Egeland is a talented freestyler and butterflyer.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m stoked to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of Arizona! Special thanks to my family and Coach Jim for making this all possible. Thank you to Coach Ben, Coach Pete, the team, and the staff in Tucson for giving me such an awesome opportunity!”

Egeland, who trains year-round with Bend Swim Club, raced to 14th place in both the 200 free and 500 free at Juniors West back in December. He most recently earned five best times at the PN BC Premier Invitational in March. Last summer, he finaled in four events at Sacramento Futures and secured a seventh place finish in the 200m fly.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.21
  • 100 free – 45.73
  • 200 free – 1:36.75
  • 500 free – 4:24.36
  • 100 fly – 49.46
  • 200 fly – 1:47.63
  • 200 IM – 1:50.64

Currently a junior at Summit High School, Egeland won the 200 free and 500 free at the 2026 Oregon 5A State Championships while helping his 4×50 free and 4×100 free relays to a pair of fourth-place finishes. He earned silver in the 100 free and 200 free at the state meet in 2025 as a sophomore.

The Wildcats finished second in the team standings at the 2026 Big 12 Championships. Egeland’s top time in the 500 free would’ve scored in the B-final at the conference meet while his best times in the 200 free and 200 fly would’ve scored in the C-final.
