Olympic Trials Qualifier William Hayon Verbally Commits to Virginia Tech for 2022

NEW COMMIT: Fresh off an historic NCAA Championships, Virginia Tech has received a new addition to their Class of 2026 from Olympic Trials qualifier William Hayon of Sheboygan, Wis.

He will arrive in Blacksburg at the start of the 2022-23 season along with Carl Bloebaum, Landon Gentry, Aiken Do and Mitchell Stroud.

He told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my swimming and academic career at Virginia Tech! I want to thank my family, teammates, and coach for all the support throughout everything! Exited to be apart of an amazing team! GO HOKIES”

Hayon, who does his club swimming with Mid Wisconsin Wave Makers, most recently won the 50m free, 50m fly, and 100m fly at the ISCA International Senior Cup this past weekend, just two weeks after he earned gold in the 100 fly at the NCSA Championships.

Hayon also picked up six Wisconsin 13&O State Championship titles earlier in March. In Summer 2019, he finaled in two events at NCSAs after posting a pair of top-5 finishes at the Wisconsin LCM State meet.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.16
  • 100 free – 43.74
  • 200 free – 1:38.43
  • 100 fly – 47.21
  • 100 back – 48.10

Currently a junior at Sheboygan North High School, Hayon is a six-time individual Wisconsin DI State Championship finalist. He secured silver in the 100 fly and bronze in the 50 free in 2021 while taking third in the 50/100 free during his sophomore season.

The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also placed first in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 fly in his rookie campaign as well.
