U.S. Open Qualifier Mitchell Stroud of TAC Titans Verbally Commits to Virginia Tech

NEW COMMIT: Greensboro, N.C. native and U.S. Open qualifier Mitchell Stroud has announced his verbal commitment to Virginia Tech beginning in the fall of 2021.

He will join Hayden JayJoseph Hong, Luan Grobbelaar and Ben Eckerson in Blacksburg as members of the Hokies’ class of 2025.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic careers at Virginia Tech in the fall of 2022. I’d like to thank my family, teammates, and coaches for supporting me along the way. Go Hokies!”

A talented freestyler, Stroud does his club swimming with TAC Titans and earned seven new best times at the intrasquad meet in August. He had a strong showing at Cary Sectionals in March where his highest finish was a sixth-place showing in the 200m free.

Last summer, he finaled in four events at North Carolina LCM Seniors before going on to notch three lifetime bests at Greensboro Futures.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.90
  • 100 free – 45.33
  • 200 free – 1:38.66
  • 500 free – 4:29.76
  • 100 fly – 49.48

Stroud has made big improvements over the past three years, dropping six seconds in the 100 free, 14 seconds in the 200 free, and over a minute in the 500 free. Under head coach Sergio Lopez, the Hokies finished fourth overall in the team standings at the 2020 ACC Championships.
