NEW COMMIT: Sprint freestyler Jillian McKinley of Coldwater, Mich. has announced her in-state verbal commitment to Northern Michigan University beginning in the fall of 2022.

She will join fellow in-state Joanne Arbic of Pickford, Mich. as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2026.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to begin my collegiate academic and athletic career at such a great university!”

McKinley does her club swimming with the Wavemakers of the Steuben County YMCA and most recently earned four best times at the Leisure Pools Last Chance Meet in February where she won the 50 free.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.35
  • 100 free – 55.02
  • 50m free – 29.05
  • 100m free – 1:05.12

A rising senior at Coldwater High School, McKinley finished sixth in the 50 free at the Michigan DIII State Championships as a junior while taking ninth in that event during her sophomore season.

Under head coach Heidi Voigt, the Wildcats won their seventh GLIAC Championship title in school history and their first since 2002 in 2020, and finished second in 2021.
