Nick Thomas Dies While Crossing English Channel
Nick Thomas died while trying to swim across the English Channel on Saturday morning. Thomas completed the crossing in 2014.
The Englishman was 16 hours into his crossing, which began in Dover, when he was pulled from the water after he became unconscious.
At the time, Thomas was 10 miles from shore. The boat was met on shore in Calais by an ambulance. Thomas was transported to the hospital where he died. He was 45.
In a statement a Foreign Office said, “We are offering assistance to the family of a British national following his death in Calais, France.”
Enduroman Events provided updates of the swim on Twitter. Early on, they reported that conditions were “not ideal”.
Not ideal conditions out here for @trismartnick but he's conditioned. Misty ahead, some big ships passing a few miles away in SW lane.

A later update announced Thomas had been transported to the hospital after passing out. His passing was confirmed nine hours after that tweet.
