COLLEGE PARK, Maryland. February, 23. THE men's 2006 ACC meet is finally under way and what a start the teams are off to. On day one of the meet the 800 free relay and the 200 medley relay are completed, with record breaking results.
The University of Virginia broke the meet record, which was their own from last year, with a 6:39.40. The team of Pat Mellors, John Millen, Stefan Hirniak, and Fran Crippen were just over three tenths of a second under the old record.
The 200 medley relay was taken by North Carolina State and the team of Kevin Velleca, Dan Velez, Steve Cowling, and Cullen Jones. They were over half a second under the old meet record they set last year. The men touched in with a 1:26.88.
