NEW COMMIT: The University of Missouri has received their second verbal commitment for the 2023-24 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier John Watson of Omaha, Nebraska.

He will join Logan Ottke of Morrow, Ohio, in Columbia as a member of the Tigers’ Class of 2027.

He told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Missouri! Special thanks to my family, teammates, Creighton Prep teachers, Tom Beck, and every GOAL coach for getting me to where I am today. Another huge thanks to Coach Grevers and the entire Mizzou staff for giving me this opportunity. Go Tigers!!!”

A talented breaststroker, Watson does his club swimming with Greater Omaha Aquatics and most recently picked up five lifetime bests at the IFLY Midwest Challenge last weekend. This past summer, he earned bronze in both the 200m breast and 200m IM at Lenexa Sectionals before going on to race three events at the Speedo Summer West Championships.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.10
  • 200 breast – 2:02.60
  • 200 IM – 1:50.82
  • 400 IM – 4:03.94
  • 500 free – 4:34.90

Currently a junior at Creighton Prep High School, Watson is already a four-time individual Nebraska State Championship finalist. He won the 200 IM and 500 free as a sophomore while taking fourth and third, respectively, in those events during his freshman season.

Under head coach Andrew Grevers, the Tigers finished sixth at the 2021 SEC Championships.
