NEW COMMIT: Two-time Junior National qualifier Ella Stein of Hudson, Wisc. has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Nebraska beginning in the 2020-21 season.

A talented breaststroker, Stein does her club swimming with Mako Aquatics under head coach Bob Young. She most recently placed 10th in the 50m breast and 12th in the 100m breast at NCSAs this past summer after racing to second in the 100m/200m breast combo at Minnesota LCM Seniors. Last winter, she raced both breaststroke events at Juniors West before going on to earn a pair of best times at NCSAs.

Also competing for Hudson High School, Stein is a four-time Wisconsin DI State Championship finalist and has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in her career thus far. She placed sixth in the 100 breast as a junior after earning the runner-up position in that event during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I chose Nebraska because of all that they offer to their student athletes. Seeing the opportunities and resources available was incredible! I can’t wait to be a part of such a welcoming and hardworking team. #GBR!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 29.13
  • 100 breast – 1:03.41
  • 200 breast – 2:19.15
  • 200 IM – 2:07.99

When she suits up for the Cornhuskers in the fall of 2020, Stein will be a valuable asset both individually and on medley relays as her best times already rank at the top of their lineup, adding much-needed breaststroke depth. She’ll join Allison Henry and Sarah Barton next fall in Lincoln as a member of the class of 2024.
