NCAA Division II Championships Day 3 Prelims: Nova Southeastern Powers to Strong Session

The NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off its Day 3 preliminaries.

The events for the Day 3 prelims are the women’s and men’s 100 butterfly, 400 IM and 200 free.

NCAA DII Women’s 100 Butterfly

Nova Southeastern sophomore Rafaela Raurich was one of two swimmers to break 54 seconds. She got to the wall in 53.54 to earn the top seed in the 100 fly heading into finals.

Lynn senior Luna Mertins also broke 54, touching the wall in 53.62 to claim the second seed.

Tampa senior Isabelle Sering took the third seed in 54.01, followed by Findlay sophomore Emily Mears-Bentley (54.15).

NCAA DII Men’s 100 Butterfly

Findlay junior Camilo Marrugo claimed the top spot in the men’s event, going a 45.86, the only swimmer in the field to break 46.

It was part of a 1-3 finish for the Oilers as fifth-year Timothy Stollings snagged the third seed in 46.19.

Henderson’s Jase Pinckney took the second spot in 46.19.

Drury sophomore Alejandro Villarejo took the fourth seed in 46.48, while Tampa’s Adrian Aguilar took the fifth spot in 46.54.

NCAA DII Women’s 400 IM

Colorado Mesa fifth-year Benedict Nagy dominated the women’s 400 IM prelims, getting to the wall in 4:13.99.

While the time was three seconds off of her seed time, it was nearly four seconds ahead of the field.

It was part of a 1-2 finish for Colorado Mesa as junior Sophia Bains claimed the third seed in 4:18.99.

Drury sophomore Maria Fe Munoz took the second seed in 4:17.38. Nova Southeastern’s May Lowy was at 4:18.99 to finish fourth.

NCAA DII Men’s 400 IM

Indy’s Cedric Buessing and Colorado Mesa’s Benjamin Sampson set up a intriguing final in the 400 IM.

Buessing took the top seed for finals with a 3:48.27, while Sampson was just behind at 3:48.53.

Both were well off their seed times and could make for a huge time drop tonight.

Missouri S&T’s Connor Bichsel took the third seed in 3:49.44.

NCAA DII Women’s 200 Free

Nova Southeastern’s Emily Trieschmann was the top seed in the 200 free, going a 1:46.88. It was a shade faster than her seed time and a second ahead of the field.

Her teammate Emilia Ronningdal took the fifth spot in 1:48.41 and Rafaela Raurich was eighth (1:49.21) to sneak into her second final of the day.

Simon Fraser’s Tori Meklensek took the second spot in 1:47.70, ahead of Azusa Pacific’s Montana White (1:48.12), and Drury’s Josephine Buschell (1:48.38).

Oklahoma Christian’s Victor Rosado claimed the top seed in the 200 free, getting to the wall in 1:34.85.

Nova Southeastern took to of the next three spots with Thomas Flower in second (1:35.18) and Marcel Snitko in fourth (1:35.30).

Tampa senior Caleb Brandon took the third seed (1:35.28). Grand Valley State’s Matthew Bosch was fifth (1:35.53).
