The race for the team title was tighter than expected and set us up for some intense match-ups throughout the final session of the 2018 Division I men’s NCAA championships.
Leading into tonight, the Indiana Hoosiers were in front with 325 points with the Texas Longhorns (306) and the California Bears (291.5) following behind.
Beyond team rankings, several NCAA and American records were snapped tonight as Florida’s Caeleb Dressel became the first man to dip under 40-seconds in tonight’s 100 free by swimming a 39.90.
After Indiana’s Ian Finnerty set a new American record last night in the 100 breast, he followed that up with a win in the 200 distance, holding off a strong last 50 from Cal’s Andrew Seliskar
Texas senior Joseph Schooling failed to advance to the finals this morning when he swam a 1:43.34 for 26th. The Schooling-free final will brewed a battle between NC State’s Andreas Vazaios and Florida’s Jan Switkowski, where Vazaios came out on top with the victory, while the Gator senior touched second.
The NC State men broke their own NCAA and American records in the 4×100 free relay to wrap up this year’s NCAA championships.

Florida’s Caeleb Dressel continues to smash barriers by breaking yet another NCAA and American record, this time in the 100 free where he produced a 39.90. This makes Dressel the first and only swimmer to break 40-seconds in a 100 free, making for the third major barrier the Gator senior has broken at this meet alone.
Dressel was the only swimmer in the heat out in under 19-seconds for the first 50, where he split 18.96.
Touching second in the A final was NC State’s Ryan Held in a 41.08 which ties him with Nathan Adrian for fifth all-time. Fellow Wolfpack member Justin Ress threw down a 41.49 for third place overall.
Touching in eighth was USC’s Santo Condorelli in a 42.34.
Auburn’s Zach Apple touched first in the B final with a 41.36.
