National Qualification Meet of Montpelier: Kim Vandenberg, Fred Bousquet Double
MONTPELIER, France, March 5. KIM Vandenberg and Fred Bousquet performed well during the first day of long course meter swimming at the National Qualification Meet of Montpelier.
Vandenberg of the U.S. cruised to victory in the women's 50 free with a 26.58, while Australia's Nadine Jones took second in 26.94. France's Angela Tavernier placed third in 27.07. Vandenberg doubled up with a 27.68 in the women's 50 fly. France's Diane Bui Duyet touched second in 27.78, while Jones earned her second podium with a third-place 28.25.
Bousquet posted a tune-up time of 22.46, while teammate Fabien Gilot (23.09) and Gregory Mallet (23.10) rounded out the top three in the men's 50 free. Bousquet also doubled up with a 24.01 in the men's 50 fly. Venezuela's Albert Subirats finished second in 24.46, while France's Julien Bayle placed third in 25.44.
France's Camille Lacourt scorched the men's 50 back with a winning time of 25.33. Subirats took his second podium in 27.09, while Switzerland's Adrien Perez finished third in 27.11. France's Giacomo Perez Dortona snagged the men's 50 breast in 28.72, while France's Maxime Bussiere finished second in 29.00. France's Geoffrey Ferrari wound up third in 29.50.
France's Alexianne Castel followed in the women's 50 back with a winning 29.99. Teammates Elodie Meyer and Florence Riera tied for second with matching 31.66s. France's Andrea Baudry won the women's 50 breast, while compatriots Fanny Babou (33.11) and Geraldine Huffner (34.70) completed the top three.
In distance events, France's Ophelie-Cyrielle Etienne led the way in the women's 800 free in 8:46.26. Castel took second in 8:56.24. Stephane Gomez topped the men's 1500 free in 16:16.00, while Lucas Ruiz finished second in 16:43.03.
