Morningstar Sizzles at Speedo Western Canadian Championships
WINNIPEG, Manitoba, February 19. ERICA Morningstar of Calgary and Landice Yestrau of Winnipeg continued their strong showings Saturday at the 2006 Speedo Western Canadian Swimming Championships with victories at the Pan Am Pool. Morningstar posted the victory in the women’s 100 freestyle (54.36) while Lestrau took the 200 backstroke (2:14.35). The two teenagers are currently tuning up for their first Commonwealth Games next month in Melbourne, Australia.
Other winners in women’s open competition were Melanie Dodds of Langley, B.C., in the 200 butterfly (2:17.03) and Jillian Tyler of Calgary in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.72). Winner in men’s open competition were Chad Murray of Calgary in the 200 butterfly (2:00.41); Braeden Taylor of Winnipeg in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.14); Ray Betuzzi of Calgary in the 100 freestyle (50.72) and Jake Tapp of Langley, B.C., in the 200 backstroke (2:00.37).
