Mitchell Schott Breaks Michael Phelps Pool Record as Princeton Sweeps Quad Meet

Mitchell Schott took down the United States Naval Academy pool record of Michael Phelps set in 2009 Friday as Princeton swept a quad meet Friday and Saturday.

Schott went 1:32.72 in the 200 free. That downed the mark of 1:33.14 set by Phelps in 2009, deep into a career that included eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Schott’s time is an NCAA qualifying time, as was the 1:43.48 time he used to win the 200 butterfly. Schott won Saturday’s 500 free in 4:18.57.

Patrick Dinu on Saturday set a pool record in the 100 free with a time of 42.59 seconds. He anchored the Tigers’ 400 free relay to a win, a team that included Schott, Logan Noguchi and Jake Tarara. Dinu was second in the 50 free and helped the Tigers’ 200 free relay win in 1:17.72.
