Australia’s Minna Atherton unleashed a World Junior record in the women’s 50-meter back semis at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.
Atherton blasted her way to a 27.92 in semis to lower her own record of 28.00 from prelims.
That swim put her 10th in the world rankings this year as she continues to drive towards the world record of 27.06 set by Zhao Jing back in 2009.
New Zealand’s Gabrielle Fa’Amausili qualified second in 28.14 with Canada’s Danielle Hanus snaring the third seed in 28.27.
New Zealand’s Bobbi Gichard (28.57), Russia’s Irina Prikhodko (28.76), Germany’s Laura Riedemann (28.86), South Africa’s Mariella Venter (28.88) and USA’s Grace Ariola (28.94) also earned transfer spots into the finale.
