The University of Michigan picked up a verbal commitment from Alexis Margett, according to a tweet from her high school. Margett is from Glendora, California and swims for Brea Aquatics.
Her best times are:
- 50 Fly 26.42
- 100 Fly 52.59
- 200 Fly 1:57.74
- 100 Breast 1:04.47
- 200 Breast 2:17.66
- 200 IM 1:59.78
Representing Glendora High School she is the defending CIF Southern Division Two Section Champion in the 100 fly (52.59) and the 200 IM (1:59.59). At Junior Nationals this summer Margett finished fourth in the 100 butterfly with a 1:00.64.
Michigan won the 2016 Big Ten Conference Championship and Margett is poised to contribute to that success. Her best time would have finished third in the conference last year in the 100 butterfly. At the top of the B final, Zoe Mattingly (53.87) was the team’s top finisher. She also would have tied for fourth in the 200 butterfly and been a 200 IM B finalist.
Margett is not far from NCAA scoring in the 100 butterfly either. At last year’s meet she would have finished 23rd with her best time, in an event where a 52.39 secured the last finals spot.
Emma Cleason and Alex Hughes have also given verbal commitments to be members of the Class of 2021.
