Marian Girls and Westside Boys Take Crowns in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Nebraska. March 20. IT was a stellar meet for the boys and girls from Omaha Westside and Omaha Marian in their high school state championships. The Westside boys ran away with the crown with 225 points and the victory while the girls from Marian won it all with 274.

Seniors Jennifer Kocsis and Karen Criss dominated for Marian with their double victories. Kocsis won the 200 free (1:50.60) and 500 free (4:53.36) with Criss taking hold of the 100 back (56.27) and the 200 IM (2:03.56).

For the boys, Spenser Lauver and Patrick Kirkland were the obvious standouts. Lauver, a junior from Westside, won both the 100 fly (51.77) and 200 free (1:43.76). Kirkland, a senior from Ralston/Omaha Gross, also won two races. Both were decided by less than two one-hundredths of a second, in the 50 free and the 100 breast nonetheless. His times were 21.36 and 58.46, respectively.
