Maria Lenk Trophy: Exciting Finish in Men’s 100 Fly
SANTOS, Brazil, May 6. A day after Cesar Cielo clocked a scorching time in the men's 50 free, swimmers at the Maria Lenk Trophy continued to put on a show for the fans in attendance.
Kaio Almeida and Gabriel Mangabeira put on a show in the men's 100 fly with an exciting finish that featured a pair of top 20 world-ranked times. Almeida touched out Mangabeira by the slimmest of margins, 53.01 to 53.02. Both efforts were among the top 20 this year. Thiago Pereira pocketed third-place honors with a 53.61.
Gabriella Silva cleared 1:00 for the win in the women's 100 fly with a 59.62. Daynara Paula finished second in 1:00.25, while Daniele Jesus rounded out the top three in 1:00.94.
Carolina Mussi captured the women's 100 breast in 1:11.74, while Ana Carvalho took second in 1:12.11. Tatiane Sakemi placed third in 1:12.20. Meanwhile, Tales Cerdeira beat Henrique Barbosa, 1:01.61 to 1:01.81, in the men's 100 breast. Joao Luiz Jr. finished third in 1:01.95.
Joanna Maranhao walked away with the women's 400 free in 4:13.49, while Poliana Okimoto finished second in 4:13.56. Kristel Kobrich picked up third in 4:15.28. Armando Negreiros followed up in the men's 400 free with a winning 3:55.29. Leonardo Santos earned second in 3:57.44, while Juan Pereyra completed the top three in 3:57.52.
