Margo Geer, Michael Andrew Post Solid Times Friday Morning at TYR Pro Swim Series
The first full morning of the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series from Columbus, Ohio kicked off with some solid in-season times from Michael Andrew and Margo Geer. Both swimmers posted the fourth fastest time by an American in 2018 and put themselves in contention for a spot on the Pan Pacs team if they weren’t already.
USA National Team members Kelsi Dahlia, Leah Smith, and Justin Ress also showed consistency at the final Pro Swim Series meet before we head to Nationals in three weeks.

Ohio State alum Aliena Schmidtke split the two Cardinals with her 59.52 as the 25 year old is swimming in her home pool that she swam college in.
Also placing in the top ten was Amanda Kendall (59.93) as the only other swimmer to break a minute in the prelims.
Christie Jensen (1:00.12), Remedy Rule (1:00.15), Grace Oglesby (1:00.21) and Asia Seidt (1:00.26) also placed in the top eight after the A-flight.

Men’s 100 Fly
19-year-old Michael Andrew posted the top time in the 100 fly heats with a 52.47 as he is over a second quicker than second place Giles Smith (53.40). Andrew is looking to make his jump into the senior ranks as he has a chance to break out on to his first senior national team this summer for Pan Pacs.
Andrew went just a tenth faster than he has been this season. He is currently the fourth fastest American of 2018 behind Jack Conger (51.00), Caeleb Dressel (52.20) and Tripp Cooper (52.36). Andrew was a 52.57 at the Atlanta Pro Swim Series in March.
Zach Harting and Ryan Held tied for third this morning with a 53.72 while Chase Kalisz almost joined in on the tie, placing fifth with a 53.73.
Cody Bybee (53.86), Michael Salazar (54.08) and Nicolas Albiero (54.21) also placed in the top eight after the A-flight this morning.

Women’s 400 Free
Leah Smith swimming in her first full year as a post grad swimmer cruised to the top time in the 400 free heats with a 4:06.19 on Friday morning at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Columbus. Smith is four seconds ahead of second place Kaersten Meitz (4:10.27) and third place Allison Schmitt (4:10.67).
Again, there is no Katie Ledecky at this meet so all eyes will be on Smith in tonight’s final and we will see if she is challenged by Schmitt or Meitz in the final.
Smith is fourth on the TYR Pro Swim Series leaderboard, but is the highest ranked swimmer here in Columbus as Melanie Margalis, Taylor Ruck and Ledecky are not here, so Smith could rack up enough points to go by all three swimmers.
Also in tonight’s final will be Cierra Runge (4:11.28) and Sierra Schmidt (4:12.00).
Rose Bi (4:12.58), Mariah Denigan (4:12.72) and Evie Pfeifer (4:13.26) also placed in the top eight after the A-flight.

Men’s 400 Free
Club Wolverine’s Felix Aubock cruised to the top time in the 400 free heats on Friday at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Columbus. Aubock swam an easy 3:54.13 as he is the top seed ahead of Anton Ipsen (3:54.28) and 18-year-old Patrick Callan (3:55.53).
Callan will be headed to Michigan in the fall to join Aubock as the two will be training together for the next two years in Ann Arbor as Callan could be the next in line to be apart of the great middle distance free tradition at Michigan.
Nick Hogsed (3:56.36), Marcelo Acosta (3:56.68), Zane Grothe (3:56.69), Sam Steele (3:57.22) and PJ Ransford (3:57.72) also placed in the top eight after the A-flight.
Grothe is currently sitting in second place in the TYR Pro Swim Series rankings, sitting just two points behind Chase Kalisz as those two are the only swimmers realistically with a shot at winning. Nathan Adrian is in third some 42 points behind Kalisz.

Women’s 200 Breast
Postgrad swimmer Anne Lazor posted the top time in the 200 breast heats with a 2:28.10 on Friday morning in Columbus. Lazor is seeded ahead of a pair of 2:28’s from Louisville’s Mariia Astashkina (2:28.31) and Indiana’s Lilly King (2:28.42).
The race could get a lot faster as King has been a 2:24 already this year and was a 2:22 last year. Lazor has only been a 2:27 this year but could have more in the tank tonight.
Michigan’s Miranda Tucker (2:29.75) is the fourth seed for tonight and could also have a chance to go faster.
Kaki Christensen (2:31.33), Anna Keating (2:32.08), Bailey Bonnett (2:32.20) and Lauren James (2:33.14) also placed in the top eight after the A-flight.
Notably, Katie Meili scratched and did not swim this morning.

Louisville’s Evgenii Somov had the fastest 200 breast in the heats as he swam a 2:12.92 on Friday morning in Columbus, Ohio. Somov is just ahead of Chase Kalisz who is second at 2:13.20. This is Kalisz’s second race of the day as he is likely gunning for the Pro Swim Series title. He is in a tight battle with Zane Grothe and Kalisz is the only Georgia swimmer in attendance.
Reece Whitley (2:14.39) is the third seed as he could also challenge the top two guys for the win tonight as Whitley was very long this morning with his swim.
Takeharu Fujimori (2:15.10), Jake Foster (2:15.55), Jacob Montague (2:16.02), Charlie Swanson (2:16.23) and Casey Storch (2:16.92) placed in the top eight after the A-flight.

Women’s 100 Free
26-year-old Margo Geer had the fastest 100 free on Friday morning with a 54.07 to lead the field by almost a full second. Geer was one of three swimmers under 55 seconds in the heats as Allison Schmitt (54.88) and Mallory Comerford (54.92) were the other two. Geer has not made a National team since she swam in Kazan at the World Championships in 2015. That 54.0 put her on the map moving forward to Nationals at the end of the summer.
Geer is now the fourth fastest American of 2018 behind Simone Manuel (53.84), Lia Neal (53.95) and Comerford (54.06).
The rest of the A-final is pretty solid as Kelsi Dahlia (55.15), Siobhan Haughey (55.18), Gabby DeLoof (55.33), Amanda Kendall (55.54) and Casey Fanz (55.81) placed in the top eight after the A-flight.
